Mobility for New Town of Parand improved by metro

مترو پرند The remaining part of Tehran-Parand Metro project for about 18 km is inaugurated facilitating mobility for the most densely populated new town in Iran.

Tehran, December 2 (MRUD NEWS)—The new towns in Iran are growing fast in response to the increasing urbanization rate and densification of population in major metropolitan areas.

Among the new towns in Iran, two cities of Parand and Pardis, are major new towns of Tehran Province housing about 350,000, and 100,000 people respectively.

Provision of infrastructures and superstructures for improving the welfare of residents have always been major concerns for these new towns.

For the most densely populated new town of Iran and Tehran Province, namely Parand City, both the government and urban policy-makers acted for the mobility and rail connection to the metropolitan area of Tehran since 2005 when the initial study began through cooperation of 'New Town Development Company' affiliated to Iran Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and Tehran Municipality.

Now after years, the 18-km Tehran-Parand Metro project is inaugurated on Thursday November 30, 2023 facilitating the mobility for about 25,000 to 30,000 people who commute every day from Parand to Tehran and vice versa.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President Raeisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, together with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, the Mayor of Tehran, and other provincial and city officials.

President Raeisi called this project as a fulfillment of the government's promise to the people and improvement of their quality of life.

This metro line has the capacity for commute of 13,000 passengers.

The 9,500 billion IRR credit for construction has been provided by Iran Ministry of Roads and Urban Development by bartering lands to the Tehran Municipality which was responsible for implementation of the project.

Alongside the metro project, 4381 housings as part of the 'national housing movement' for mass production of housings, a school, a mosque, a health center, and a park in Parand were also inaugurated.

The Tehran-Parand metro branches off from Shahed metro Station and reaches Parand city with five stations along a 50-kilometer route.

The first 30 kilometers of the Parand metro leading to Shahr-e-Aftab and Imam Khomeini Airport stations had been put into operation, but construction of about 20 kilometers of the Parand metro were prolonged.

Other mobility projects for the new towns in Iran include Tehran-Pardis Metro, Esfahan-Baharestan Metro with 52 percent development and Mashahd-Golbahar with 45 percent development. Also, electrification of Golshahr to the new town of Hashtgerd with the length of 26 km is underway.
