Iran, Turkey held the 8th Supreme Council of Economic Cooperation

ترکیه Iran and Turkey signed 10 MoU and co-op documents during 8th Iran, Turkey Supreme Council of Economic Cooperation held on January 24 in Ankara. Two of the documents are related to the rail and air transport.

Tehran, January 27, 2024 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran and Turkey held the 8th Supreme Council of Economic Cooperation in Ankara on January 24. For this reason, Iran's President, Ebrahim Raisi, arrived in Turkey at the head of a high-ranking delegation on 24 January and was welcomed by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, accompanied the President in this visit as the head of Iran, Turkey Joint Economic Commission. 

During this visit, Iran and Turkey inked 10 cooperation documents and MOUs to boost bilateral investment and economic cooperation between the two countries in different fields including culture, media and communication, transport, electricity, energy, economy and free trade zones. 

The signed agreements are: 1) Operation agreement between Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) and Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC); 2) MoU on cooperation in free trade zones; 3) MoU on media and communication cooperation; 4) Framework agreement on railway transportation; 5) MoU on Scientific, Industrial, and Technological Cooperation; 6) Letter of Intent (LoI) on Cooperation for the Year 2025 regarding mutual culture; 7) MoU between the Turkish National Police Academy and Iran's Amin Police University; 8) MoU on the mutual recognition and exchange of national driver's licenses; 9) MoU on the appointment of armed flight safety officers between two countries; and 10) MoU on cooperation in the energy sector, according to Caliber.az. 

For the transport sector, Iran proposed for completion of a railway corridor connecting Cheshmeh Soraya to Marand in order to form a new East-West Corridor. 

Also, in road transport, the current Iran and Turkey borders are Bazargan, Serow, and Razi. Once the construction and modernization work that Turkey started at the Gurbulak-Bazargan Border Gate since last two years is completed, it will provide services with a high capacity. 

According to Bazrpash, Iran and Turkey agreed to hold the next 'Iran, Turkey Joint Economic Cooperation Commission' in the next month. To this end, upon the decree of the President, Turkey's Minister of Trade was appointed as Turkish head of the commission. 

Previously in October, during 100th anniversary of the creation of Republic of Turkey in October 29 at the Embassy of Turkey in Tehran, Mehrdad Bazrpash, had informed of holding the 8th Iran, Turkey Supreme Council of Economic Cooperation in Ankara.
