Iran's road freight transit up to 9 million tons in 2022

امانی Road freight transit through Iran's territory had been 9,300,000 tons in 2022.

Tehran, April 10 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran has transited 9,300,000 tons domestic and international freights through its road borders in the last year from March 2022 to March 2023, according to Darush Amani, head of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO).

Among all road borders, Bazargan Border with 16 percent increase had been the leading transit border in Iran in the last year.

Re-opening of borders with Turkmenistan, decreasing transit tariffs, and attracting businessmen and transport companies along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) were among the main achievements in the last year.

Based on the stance of Iran's Government for political and commercial convergence in the region and active diplomacy particularly in the form of regional trading agreements such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the Eurasian Economic Union, Iran expects to realize 20 million tons freight transit through its territory in the upcoming year.

Iran and CIS countries targeted 20 million tons freight transit during the first ministerial summit in Tehran in October 2022 held among six states including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Iran.
