Iran, Turkmenistan Boost Transit Ties

اختتامیه شانزدهمین اجلاس کمیسیون مشترک همکاری‌های اقتصادی ایران و ترکمنستا ن Tehran, October 27 (MRUD NEWS) - The 16th meeting of Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission is holding from 26 to 27 October 2021 at Iran Ministry of Transport and Urban Development.

Iran Minister of Transport, Rostam Ghasemi, and Rashid Meredov Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan are chairing the meeting. 

Iran Minister of Transport informed of the agreement for doubling rail transit between Iran and Turkmenistan. 

Maritime transport is also discussed. Iran and Turkmenistan’s agreement for participation in trilateral agreement between Iran-India-Afghanistan in Chabahar Port would enable Turkmenistan to transit freights to northern countries. 

The parties are determined to use their potentials in commerce through road and maritime transit routes to transport freights from China and India up to Iran, Turkmenistan, and northern countries. 

Next week there will be a video-conference meeting between the two countries for activating transit corridors.

Ghasemi pointed out that there are agreements in energy sector including gas and electricity as with the potentials of Iran for a more expansive relation.

Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Cooperation meeting is held annually but this joint meeting has not been held due to the outbreak of covid-19 pandemic.
