The Republic of Bulgaria is the Chairman and is hosting this year’s video-conference meeting.

The members present stances of their countries about the documents which have been received and discussed via the Secretaries during the year. These documents need to be approved in the annual meeting.

Iran’s Deputy Transport Minister, Shahram Adamnezhad, is giving a speech on behalf of Iran Transport Minister, and Amin Taraffo, the general director of the office for Commercialization and Association Affairs, and other experts are attending the meeting on the part of Iran.

Iran’s approach is to develop transport diplomacy and cooperation particularly with its neighboring countries to reach regional convergence and to take advantage of its geographical and infrastructural potentials for increased transit and ease of traffic in the region.

In this meeting, Iran is selected by the member states as a member in the audit commission of TRACECA’s Secretary for the next three years.

Among other 13 agendas, the meeting is expected to review the performance of the member states and to make decision regarding the implementation process of the action plan for the period 2018-2021 and to approve the 2022-2026 action plan under TRACECA’s ten-year strategy (2016-2026).

The meeting is held annually and three representatives from each member states including head of national commission, national secretary, and an expert attend the session. The last meeting was held on 6 December 2019 and was hosted by Azerbaijan Republic.

The initiative of TRACECA was first introduced in May 1993 at the Brussels Conference with the participation of eight countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The program was agreed with an initial EU funding of € 15 million to develop a transport corridor that includes Europe, the Black Sea, the Caucasus, the Caspian Sea and Central Asia.

In the third meeting of TRACECA (in 2003-Yerevan), Iran proposed to join TRACECA which was welcomed by the member states. Finally in 2009, Iran formally joined TRACECA which led to strengthen Iran’s role in regional transit.

Currently TRACECA has 13 member states including Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
