Tehran, April 19 (MRUD NEWS) – Iran is to export technical and engineering services to Armenia for completing the construction of the new road corridor of Tatev.

The agenda was discussed during the visit of Iran Deputy Transport Minister, Kheirollah Khademi, with Armenia ambassador to Iran, Arsen Avagyan, to seek the possibilities of Iran's cooperation in completion of the corridor between the two country.

The two sides conferred on mutual transport cooperation and facilitation of road link between Iran and Armenia. Specifically, construction of a road route from Tabriz to Norduz linking Iran to Armenia was discussed which would considerably change current accessibility of Iran to Armenia. The new route will be economical and competitive as transit route from north to south through Iran and Armenia will be reduced by half. Also, the new route will decrease transport time and costs.

Armenian ambassador asserted that cooperation with Iranian engineers and contractors due to valuable experiences in road construction and particularly construction of bridges and tunnels is welcomed and Armenia is ready to build the southern part of this corridor with the help of Iran.

Iran is seeking to diversifies its transit routes with construction of new international routes in order to increase transit advantages and ease access to the countries along North-South Corridor and Europe.

Previously, in October 2021, Iranian delegation went to Armenia to consider participation for completing Tatev Road as an alternative route to Goris-Kapan Road. Then Iran had declared its preparedness to complete the remaining part of Tatev Road in Armenian territory as soon as possible.
