Freight transit through Iran's territory increased by 28%

افندی زاده Transit through Islamic Republic of Iran's territory shows 28.2 percent increase in an eight-month period (from March to November 2023) compared to the last year in 2022.

Tehran, November 27 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran deputy transport minister, Shahriyar Afandizadeh, informed of the growth of transit in Iran within the first 8 months of the Iranian Calendar (from March to November 2023) compared to the same period in the last year. 

Afandizadeh said that due to Iran's transport diplomacy and the discourse of Iran-Rah Initiatives, we see this rise as in the first eight months of current year, a total of 9,458,862 tons of freights transited through Iran, which shows 28.2% increase compared to the same period in the last year. Also, in November 2023, with 1,541,849 tons freight transit, there is an 84.6% increase compared to November 2022.  

In this eight-month period, the transit of oil and non-oil products increased to 2,923,937 tons and 6,534,925 tons respectively, showing an increase of 48.7 and 20.8 percent compared to the same period in the last year, deputy transport minister continued.  

32.1% growth of road transit by November 2023

Additionally, Afandizadeh as the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Transport Coordination of Iran added that out of the above-mentioned total performance, the share of road transit equals to 8,520,862 tons and the share of rail transport is 938,000 tons, which shows a 32.1% growth in the road sector compared to the same period in the last year. 

In November 2023, the road transit performance recorded 544,623 tons in oil and 855,225 tons non-oil transit and the rail transit recorded 142,000 tons for both oil and non-oil transit showing a 34.6 percent growth, Afandizadeh continued.  

At the end, Afandizadeh explained that Iran's transport diplomacy for development of relations with the regional countries has led to this transit growth. The Islamic Republic of Iran's diplomacy has been realized through regional negotiations and transport agreements as well as domestic coordination with the related organizations.
