Tehran, September 25, 2024 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran has experienced a significant 73% increase in road freight transit in the first five months of 1403, with the total volume reaching 7.8 million tons, compared to 4.5 million tons during the same period last year. This data indicates substantial growth in the country's road transport sector and reflects a broader improvement in Iran's economic and trade activities.
The ten-year trend analysis reveals that the previous highest road freight transit was recorded at 4.5 million tons in the first five months of 1402. This year's notable increase highlights a remarkable upward trend in road transport activities.
The highest volume of incoming road freight was recorded at Parvizkhan border terminal and Shahid Rajaee port, accounting for 2.2 million tons and 2 million tons, respectively. Conversely, the lowest volume was reported at the Kish Free Zone and the Mehran border terminal, with only 6 and 7 tons, respectively. The surge in road freight transit is a positive sign of economic recovery and increased commercial activities within the country's road transport sector.
Freight Transport Sees 3% Increase
In the sector of road freight transported with official permits, the total volume reached 237 million tons in the first five months of 1403, a 3% increase compared to 230 million tons in the same period of 1402. The ten-year trend analysis shows that while 230 million tons were recorded in 1402, the 3% growth in 1403 demonstrates a continuing upward trend in road freight transport.
The largest volumes of road freight were destined for the provinces of Isfahan and Tehran, with 24 million tons and 22 million tons, respectively. In contrast, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad and North Khorasan provinces had the lowest volumes, with 889,000 tons and 1.683 million tons, respectively.
Out of the 237 million tons of freight transported, 77 million tons (33%) were construction and mineral materials, 46 million tons (20%) were chemical products, another 46 million tons (20%) were agricultural, livestock, and food products, 39 million tons (16%) were metallic goods, and 28 million tons (12%) comprised other items such as machinery, paper, wood, and miscellaneous goods.
Passenger Transport Reaches 56 Million
In the passenger transport sector, a total of 56 million people were transported via road in the first five months of 1403. Out of this number, 29 million (51%) traveled by bus, 19 million (34%) by minibus, and 8 million (15%) by private cars. The highest numbers of passengers traveled to the provinces of Razavi Khorasan and Kerman, with 7 million and 6 million passengers, respectively, while the lowest numbers were recorded in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad and Semnan provinces, with 221,000 and 419,000 passengers, respectively.
