Iran and Qatar Sign Agreement on Qatari Investment in Dayyer Port Development

بندر دیر Iran and Qatar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Qatari investment in the large-scale development of Dayyer commercial port in southern Iran’s Bushehr province. The agreement was finalized during a recent visit by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Doha, where he met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Tehran, October 7, 2024 (MRUD NEWS)—The MoU focuses on the participation of Qatari investors in the expansion of the Dayyer port, a project that has gained increasing attention over the past three years. The port, considered a gateway for trade between Iran and Qatar, has been the subject of several discussions, leading to enhanced commercial and political exchanges between the two nations.

According to the report, both parties agreed to conduct joint technical and feasibility studies to facilitate the port’s development and explore opportunities for further investment. The collaboration aims to improve the connectivity between Qatar and the transportation networks of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with a view to boosting trade, transport, and transit cooperation.

The expansion of Dayyer port is seen as a strategic move for Iran, which has prioritized linking Qatar to its transport routes as part of its broader foreign trade policy. The signing of the MoU, overseen by the relevant ministers and members of the Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, marks a significant step towards enhancing port and maritime transport cooperation, as well as trade and transit between the two countries
