Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Launches Phase One of Housing Development Project on Abu Musa Island

صادق- بندر بوموسی Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, has announced the launch of the first phase of a housing development project on Abu Musa Island during a one-day visit.

Tehran, November 9, 2024 (MRUD NEWS)—The visit featured the Start of construction ceremony for 110 housing units, marking the start of efforts to address residential needs on the island.

Sadegh described the visit as an opportunity to witness both the potential and challenges faced by the island's residents, many of whom have lived there for years due to their professions.

Sadegh emphasized that the fourteenth administration is acting on longstanding directives from the Supreme Leader regarding a sea-based economy and the development of the three islands.

She noted that ensuring proper housing for the local population is a key focus, and plans are underway to facilitate housing for both the island's long-term residents and individuals from across the country interested in moving to Abu Musa.

The minister further stated that while construction for 110 units has begun, additional housing projects are being planned. A competition involving architectural and urban planning professionals will be held to design these units, with the winning proposals showcasing the potential for civilization-building on the island.

Phase one of the project will incorporate the best architectural designs from this competition, with subsequent phases following a similar model.

Addressing the issue of transport between Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas, Sadegh announced plans to increase weekly flights from one to four within two weeks, with the ultimate goal of daily flights and potential connections to Shiraz. Speedboat services for sea travel will also be enhanced to facilitate access.

Highlighting the island’s potential for tourism, Sadegh stressed that boosting the economy and livelihood of its residents is essential.

She plans to raise relevant issues in upcoming government meetings, hoping for inter-ministerial cooperation to realize Abu Musa's development potential.

The minister underscored the connection between prosperity, peace, and improved quality of life on Abu Musa, as well as the nearby Greater and Lesser Tunbs.

Critical infrastructure needs, such as permanent air links between Abu Musa, Tehran, Shiraz, and Bandar Abbas, were identified to ensure investor and tourist access.

Sadegh noted the significant national pride associated with the three islands and expressed optimism that government-provided initial facilities would encourage investment.

In closing, the minister committed to completing the 110 housing units within less than a year, stressing that every effort is being made to accelerate the project’s completion.
