PMO Emphasizes Maritime Modernization, Boosing Iran’s Standing in International Maritime Forums

afifi Mohammad Shikibi-Nasab, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), praised the bravery of Iranian seafarers who, despite the difficult conditions of war, ensured that food security for the Iranian people remained secure. He affirmed that the PMO, with the support of all relevant agencies, is mobilizing all its service capacities to supply essential goods and basic commodities to the public.

Speaking at a ceremony honoring and introducing the new Deputy for Maritime Affairs, Shikibi-Nasab highlighted Iran’s effective presence and elevated status in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a serious strategic objective. He noted that backed by 5,800 kilometers of marine borders and a rich history of Iranian navigation in international waters, Iran’s role in global forums must be more prominent than ever.

The managing director identified the review of maritime and port processes as a key transformative approach in the new management era. He stressed that the new maritime affairs leadership must leverage modern technologies to revise and standardize the country’s maritime activities. Aligning with the IMO’s slogan of "safer seas, safer travel, and a cleaner environment," Shikibi-Nasab emphasized that as one of the oldest members of the IMO, the PMO has consistently been a pioneer in implementing maritime conventions.

Allahmorad Afifi-Pour, the Acting Deputy for Maritime Affairs, outlined his executive approach, which includes supporting the private sector and expanding the quantitative and qualitative development of non-governmental sectors in the maritime industry. He stated that developing the national fleet and the PMO’s service fleet will be central policies in this new transformative period. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of focusing on specialized human resources and expanding training across various maritime sectors as a top priority.
