Georgia Land Transport Agency hosted representatives of road transport organizations and trade unions.

According to the PR of Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO), in this meeting the two sides exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations in road freight transport, resumption of passenger traffic, revival of regional transit, and supporting membership in international conventions on transport and trade.

Also current status of fleet traffic, existing problems of drivers at borders, facilitating border crossing, the necessity of facilitating Persian Gulf-Black Sea Corridor, and mutual cooperation at ports were also discussed.

Javad Hedayati, the director-general of Transit and International Transportation Bureau at Iran’s RMTO, said that bilateral two-day meetings for transport and trade are important for resolving the problems and barriers to optimal bilateral operations as well as clarifying operational ambiguities.

Pointing to the Tehran-Tbilisi International Road Transport Agreement as a successful model for regional transport, Hedayati stressed importance of comprehensive corridors that facilitate road freight transit and support competitive environment for different modes of transport.

Iran's delegation visited the ports of Puti and Batumi and the Sarpi border (the Turkish-Georgian border crossing), and was updated on the status of loading/unloading, customs processes, and future development plans in Georgian ports.

Last week, Javad Hedayati, headed a delegation to Baku to discuss facilitation of road traffics and removing barriers to bilateral trade between the two countries.
