Tehran, Dec 27 (MRUD NEWS) – Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, arrived in Baghdad on 25 December to discuss transport cooperation with his Iraqi counterpart.

He was welcomed by Taleb Abdullah Bayesh, Undersecretary of Iraq Ministry of Transportation for Technical Affairs and met with Iraq President, Barham Salih, and Iraq Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.

Ghasemi informed of finalizing agreement for Shalamcheh-Basra Railroad and doubling the number of flights between Iran and Iraq.

The negotiations for 32 km railroad between Iran and Iraq had been ongoing for last 20 years; however they had not come into conclusion.  

The Railways of the two countries will launch implementation of the project within a month through formation of a joint company and with specific timetable.

Including Iraq President and Prime Minister, Ghasemi will visit Governors of Najaf, Karbala, Babil, Al-Qādisiyyah in his 4-day trip.

The Iranian Minister appreciated Iraq’s efforts to implement investment projects and strengthen the two countries relations.
