Uzbekistan to Invest in Chabahar Port

Iran, Uzbek Uzbekistan is considering investments at Chabahar Port to access high seas

Tehran, January 26 (MRUD NEWS) – Uzbekistan Deputy Transport Minister, Muminov Abdusamat, with his accompanying delegation visited Chabahar Port in the south of Iran on January 25.

The political determination of Iran and Uzbekistan for closer commercial and economic ties facilitates increased cooperation and interactions between the two countries.

Visiting facilities and capacities of Chabahar Port, Abdusamat informed of the willingness of Uzbekistan for investments in this ocean port.

This is particularly important for land-locked Uzbekistan to link to the high seas and India through the only ocean port of Iran and advance trilateral cooperation with Iran and India.

The commercial turnover between Uzbekistan and India has considerably increased in the last year.

Chabahar-Zahedan Railroad, as the missing part of eastern railway transport corridor within Iran, is attractive for investors from different countries. In this sense, Uzbekistan officials emphasized on linking Chabahar Port to the rail network and also forming a logistic center for packing export/import goods at this Port.

In this visit, a taskforce is decided to be formed in order to implement the MoU on increasing maritime transport and transit capacities through Chabahar Port.

Secretary of the Iran-Uzbekistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, Muhammad Masoudi, also appreciated PMO’s vision to broaden economic ties with Uzbekistan using port and maritime capabilities.

Iran-Uzbekistan commercial turnover has been 251 million tons that is expected to increase fourfold.
