Tehran, May 11 (MRUD NEWS)—A large ro-ro Russian cargo ship, Kompozitor Gasanov, berthed at Noshahr Port in northern Iran on May 2 after about 20 years when Mercury II berthed at the coast of the Caspian Sea.

The 125-meter-long commercial ship, as one of Russia’s largest Ro Ro vessels, loaded 819 tons transit freight containing 66 trucks in Port Olya in Astrakhan.

The destination is United Arab Emirates that would be shipped by land through Iran.

Recently, the deputy of port and economic affairs at Mazandaran Port and Maritime Administration, Saeed Kiakajouri, informed of some development plans at Noshahr Port following the visit of Iran Interior Minister to the Noshahr Special Economic Zone.

Among these plans is the dredging of ponds and canals due to the drop of the Caspian's water level which endangers shipping activities in the Caspian Sea and coasts of the northern ports in Iran.

Earlier in April, Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development visited his Russian counterparts in Moscow and the two sides finalized a comprehensive transport agreement. Iran and Russia seek to increase their transport and transit cooperation, particularly along The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), to counteract the US sanctions.
