Tehran, June 8 (MRUD NEWS)—A passenger train carrying more than 400 people along Mashhad-Yazd railroad has been derailed today at 5:30 am near the central city of Tabas.
Five of the train's 10 coaches came off the track probably due to hitting an excavator; however, the exact cause is under investigation as the accident investigation board is formed and the judicial investigation is launched into the cause of the accident.
Several people are killed and dozens are injured in this accident. Some of the injured were airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
More than 19 ambulances and 3 helicopters have been dispatched to the scene.
In a message, Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, expressed condolences over the death of citizens in this tragic train accident.
Senior officials, including Tabas Governor, headed to the location of accident to follow up the condition of the injured and the deceased and to accelerate the aid processes.
