Tehran, October 2 (MRUD NEWS)—The second transit train of Russia along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) has entered Iran from Sarakhs Border on Friday and is heading to Bandar Abbas, According to the CEO of Iran's Railway.
From Russia, the transit train proceeded through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan passing 4000 km, then entered Iran through Sarakhs Border. Along the eastern part of the INSTC in Iran, the train passes 1600 km to reach Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas.
The destination for this shipment is India and South Africa through sea, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company.
The train contains 37 wagons and is carrying fertilizer.
The Railways of the two countries planned the transit since January and arranged needed coordination for the second transit following the successful passage of the first transit train in July.
Considering the strategic position of Iran and the numerous advantages of the INSTC, including significant reduction of travel time, previous obstacles were removed and the movement of the next train was planned.
"The passage of this train will be a valuable and continuous beginning of this process, and we hope to witness a significant development for transit along the INSTC by establishing the corridors passing through Iran", The CEO of the railway company said.
Right now, about 5 other trains have been loaded from Russia and are heading to Iran which heralds continuous transit along this route.
Freight transit and trade along the INSTC is targeted at 10 million tons in 2023.
