Rail transactions with Azerbaijan 60 percent up The rail transactions between Iran and Azerbaijan through Astara Border demonstrated 60 percent increase in 2022.

Tehran, April 4 (MRUD NEWS)—According to the Railway Administration of the North of Iran, there is 60 percent increase in rail transactions with Azerbaijan in 2022. 

Performance of Astara rail terminal in export/import and freight transit shows 571,146 tons rail freight transport that compared to the previous year which was 355,977 tons demonstrates 60 percent increase. 

Rail freight export had been 199,151 tons with 10 percent increase compared to the last year. 

Rail freight import had been 152,000 tons through Astara rail freight terminal and also 220,000 tons freight had been transited. 

Citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, tiles and food products are the main export goods transported to Azerbaijan through this railway terminal, while wood, timber, cotton, paper, grains, etc. are considered the most important transit and import goods.

Similarly, in the road sector, the director-general of Transit and International Transportation Bureau at Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) informed in January that transit of road fleet through Astara Border has had 18 percent increase compared to the last year and 48 percent increase compared to 2019 before the outbreak of Corona.
