وزیر _ مهرداد بذرپاش Iran's plan for development of sustainable sea-based economy through linking regional countries will make new economic hubs in the region.

Tehran, May 10 (MRUD NEWS)—On the sideline of '14th International Conference on Coasts, Ports and Marine Structures' (ICOPMAS 2022) held at IRIB International Conference Center in Tehran, Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, informed of preparing a scheme for linking Iran's provinces to the coasts.

The scheme is meant to let the citizens in provinces to take advantage of the benefits of coasts, particularly economic advantages, as they are currently disconnected.

Iran has plan to promote sea-based economy as a strategic industry particularly by drawing on the potentials of knowledge-based companies, academic potentials, and participation of regional countries in the economic plans of Iran.

The sea industry can facilitate 11 billion tons freight transit influencing different transport corridors and networks, Bazrpash said.

Referring to the operation of 90,000 ocean ships, Bazarpash informed about negotiations of various countries with Iran for development of the maritime economy and regional cooperation and said: "Fortunately, a new integration between the countries of the region in ports and the sea is under way, and this integration will lead to the formation of an economic hub in the region".

Bazrpash emphasized on the importance of multimodal transport and transit due to the geopolitical location of Iran and added that as transit can generate more wealth than oil, so agreements have been reached to develop transit with other countries.

The total length of Iran's coasts is 5,800 km which provides the country with a unique capacity for the development of economic cooperation in the sea and port sectors.
