Iran discusses INSTC in the SPIEF

وزیر روسیه During the visit of Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development to St. Petersburg for the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), completion of International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is top agenda for negotiations.

Tehran, June 15 (MRUD NEWS)—Mehrdad Bazrpash headed to St. Petersburg last night to attend the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on behalf of Islamic Republic of Iran at the invitation of his Russian counterpart.

Negotiations to follow up previous transport agreements with Russia particularly to complete International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and realizing multimodal transport along the route are the most important agendas, said Bazrpash to the IRIB reporter in St. Petersburg.

There are many meetings at the sidelines of this event including among transport ministers of different countries. Bazrpash meets with the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia for Construction and Regional Development, and Russian Minister of Transport.

Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development will give a speech on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran at this international economic forum. Additionally, in the North-South International Transport Corridor panel, several officials from Russia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Eurasia, and the International Road Transport Association will attend and give speeches in order to strengthen cooperation among participating countries in the INSTC.

Also the SPIEF Investment & Business Expo exhibition is held as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The exhibition is a platform for constructive dialogue, searching for solutions, consolidating efforts and fostering exchange of experience among the Forum participants.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is held annually since 1997 is one of the biggest and most important business events in the world. Over the past 25 years, the Forum has cemented its status as a leading international event focusing on key issues on the global economic agenda.

SPIEF 2022 welcomed 14 thousand people from 130 countries. Among them were heads of state and government, senior executives of major corporations, and world-renowned experts in the fields of science and civil society. 81 countries were represented by their official delegations.

Last month, Iran and Russia signed the agreement for financing construction of Rasht-Astara Railway along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) through a video-conference ceremony with presence of the Presidents of Iran and Russia with approximate €1.6 billion investments.
