PMO welcomes foreign investments to Iran's port and maritime sectors

علی اکبر صفایی Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) welcomes foreign investment to port, shipping, maritime and logistics activities in Iran due to large scale sea and maritime activities with 130,000 ships passing through Iran's ports every year.

Tehran, July 9 (MRUD NEWS)—Ali Akbar Safaei, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and the managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), during his visit to Shahid Rajaee Port, described sea and port activities as international activities and said: "despite unfair sanctions, Iran has done its best and will continue to do its best to overcome imposed problems. To a large extent, the country has been able to present and implement very good solutions for the prosperity of the country's economy".

"Iran's participation with its neighboring countries in economic activities is increasing day by day through which trade, economic links and joint investments will take place. To this end, we have had many meetings and negotiations with neighboring countries as well as target countries on maritime, port and logistic sectors. We have succeeded in attracting a major part of foreign investments to the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially to the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC)", Safaei explained.

In the trilateral meeting of Iran, India and Russia  which was held with the presence of the ambassadors of the neighboring countries in a couple of days ago, some good agreements were reached heralding foreign investments in shipping, port and logistics activities, Safaei added.

The pressures imposed on Iran were aimed at preventing Iranian ships from international maritime traffic; however, today we are having a ship with a capacity of 14,000 containers, which is considered very large in the maritime transport industry. It arrives directly from the target port to Shahid Rajaee Port.

Ships and liners that connect Shahid Rajaee Port to different parts of the world provide opportunities for businessmen and traders to have commercial, economic and cargo freight shipping in different countries of the world.

The annual traffic of 130,000 ships to Iran's ports necessitate requirements in terms of safety, maritime security and preservation of marine environment for which Iran has devoted considerable efforts.

Iran has been able to design an integrated system that covers all waters and waterways of Iran up to the border of 200 miles of exclusive economic zone and in some cases more than 200 miles in the high seas by designing ship monitoring systems, radar systems, electronic maps in order to monitor any traffics and ship activity, Safaei further added.

Traffic of ships to the territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone of Iran is carried out with full compliance with safety issues and without harming marine environment, Safaei emphasized.
