Tehran, November 25 (MRUD NEWS)—The construction operation for development of the second phase of Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) is launched today on November 25, 2023 by Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development.
The second phase of development of IKAC will have a 35 million capacity in the area of 410,000 m2 with €2.5 billion investments.
According to Bazrpash, development of Imam Khomeini International Airport is the largest development project in Iran since the Islamic Revolution.
In the formal ceremony, Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, said this project is aligned with the 'Iran-Rah' Project which necessitates development of soft and hard infrastructures including facilitation of transit processes and development of transport infrastructures.
The first phase of development of Imam Khomeini Airport City will be opened in the next year and is in need of €500 million investments.
Currently, the first terminal of Imam Khomeini International Airport has 6 million capacity which will be reached to 10 million within a year.
Also, Salam Airport Terminal already has the capacity for 5 million passengers a year which will be increased to 10 million.
In total, Iran plans to increase capacity of Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) to 50 million passengers a year to make the IKAC a strategic and transit hub airport in the Middle East.
A Chinese Company and Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarter are strategic partners of Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) in this project.
Within the Iran-China 25-year Cooperation Program, the second phase of development of IKAC as a new initiative along the Silk Road will promote Iran, China relations.
