Iran’s plans for rolling stock export/import respond to soaring rail transit

صالحی With the increasing record of rail transit, Iran is to import passenger railroad cars and locomotives, while exporting domestically manufactured freight railroad cars.

Tehran, December 20 (MRUD NEWS)—In the press conference held on the second day of the 7th exhibition of transportation, logistics and related industries in Tehran, the managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Miad Salehi, informed of export of freight railroad cars manufactured in Iran.

Reporting on the performance of Iran Railway, Salehi said: in the first eight months of current year (from March 21 to November 21) , 21,600,000 passengers traveled by rail that shows 10 percent growth compared to the last year and within next three months, it is expected that the record will reach 30 million passengers.

In the railway freight, he explained that there is 5% growth of rail transit in tonnage in five months (from March 21 to August 21) and considering the agreements with the neighboring countries, part of which will be operational from the early 2024, there will be a new record in the rail freight transit by the end of March 2024.

Pointing to the ongoing cooperation with the neighboring countries, Salehi stated that constructive MoUs are concluded with Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey.

Iran is capable of manufacturing freight railroad cars, and due to the high standards and quality of domestically manufactured freight cars, there is possibility for export. However, for the freight locomotives and passenger railroad cars, there is a need for import which will be planned with 20,000 billion IRR credit.

Salehi also informed of inauguration of one of the railway projects, the 270-km Yazd-Eghlid Railway within next months.

The 7th exhibition of transportation, logistics and related industries, with the theme of  „smart transport, transit and economic development“ will be closed today.
