Tehran, December 29 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, informed of opening the second transit route between Iran and Azerbaijan in Astara within the next few days.
The construction of the Astara road bridge at Iran, Azerbaijan border is over and it will be opened soon.
He added that all those involved in the matter, including the customs, border guard, passport police, etc., are trying to put this transit route into operation as soon as possible.
In September 2021, Iran and Azerbaijan formally launched the construction of this highway bridge over the Aras River at the two countries' border.
Quoting Shahin Mustafayev, First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Bazrpash said in 2023 transport between Iran and Azerbaijan recorded 40 percent, international transit 57 percent, and rail transport 47 percent increase.
