The Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has initiated a comprehensive review study to modernize 10 strategic border crossings, an effort aimed at streamlining transit operations and enhancing the flow of freight and passenger transport. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to advancing critical infrastructure to meet evolving national and international transport requirements.

According to Hossein Haddadzadegan, Head of the RMTO Technical and Engineering Affairs Department, the historical significance of several border crossings were noted, as many have been in operation for decades. “Given their long-standing role in national and regional connectivity, we are conducting a comprehensive study and review to develop and upgrade the border crossings at Inchehborun, Bazargan, Tamarchin, Sarakhs, Seru, Jolfa, Lotfabad, Mirjaveh, Milk, and Norduz,” he stated.

Haddadzadegan also highlighted that, upon completing the review and gaining approval for the updated plans, RMTO will proceed with implementation operations. These efforts will focus on aligning the infrastructure with the specific activities of each border, particularly in the domains of passenger transport, freight logistics, and transit services.

The planned upgrades, he explained, will encompass a wide range of enhancements, including landscaping, expanding parking facilities, and increasing the number of passenger gates, with a special focus on high-traffic terminals, such as those utilized during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

“Through this initiative, we aim to improve, expand, and boost the transportation infrastructure at these major borders. The result will be enhanced service delivery for passengers, seamless freight transport, and the overall growth and prosperity of the transit sector,” Haddadzadegan remarked.

This comprehensive development plan reflects the RMTO’s strategic vision to position the border crossings as hubs of efficiency and innovation, supporting both domestic mobility and international trade. By addressing long-standing challenges and infrastructure gaps, the initiative aims to foster more reliable and efficient cross-border movement.
