Chabahar Port Becomes Major Infrastructure Hub

chabahar visit The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and the Managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization announced a 240 trillion rial investment by the private and public sectors in Chabahar Port.

Chabahar, Iran – Saeed Rasouli, Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), announced significant progress in the development of Shahid Beheshti Port during an official visit alongside PMO board members. Speaking to reporters, he outlined strategic development initiatives and shared the long-term vision for Iran’s only oceanic port.

Rasouli expressed his satisfaction at being among the people of Sistan and Baluchestan, stating that the visit was part of the PMO board’s scheduled tours to ports nationwide. “The PMO board regularly visits ports across the country to assess their operational and infrastructural issues. When required, decisions are made at the board level in coordination with local port authorities and relevant provincial officials directly on-site,” he said.

Chabahar Transformed into a Major Construction Zone

Highlighting the scale of ongoing work, Rasouli noted: “Today, Chabahar Port has evolved into a massive development hub, with a combined investment of 2.4 quadrillion rials from both the public and private sectors.”

He further announced that the port’s storage capacity for essential goods will increase by 50% over the next year. This capacity boost will be facilitated through the completion of current projects, including the construction of mechanized silos and covered warehouses.

Strategic Rail Connectivity Underway

Rasouli emphasized the importance of integrating the port into the national transportation network. “The construction of the Chabahar railway line is in progress. With the connection of Chabahar to Zahedan via rail, both the national railway route and the port’s rail infrastructure will become operational simultaneously,” he explained.

He added that connecting Chabahar—Iran’s only oceanic port—to the national railway network will significantly enhance its role as a strategic gateway on the North-South International Transport Corridor, boosting national and regional trade capacity.
