Iran to Review Port Cooperation With Neighbors, Minister Says

sadegh1 Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, while honoring the memory of the martyrs—especially Commander Tangsiri, said the government will review port relations and cooperation with neighboring countries in light of new regional conditions, while also calling for the removal of bureaucratic obstacles and greater support for small-scale maritime workers.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the Ports and Maritime Organization’s board and port directors from across the country via videoconference, Sadegh praised the performance of port managers and staff during the third imposed war.

“Across all the country’s ports, especially in the southern ports that were under greater pressure, operations remained uninterrupted and performance of managers and staff was highly commendable,” Sadegh said. “Effective measures were taken to ensure the continuity of services despite the exceptional wartime conditions.”

According to the minister, coordinated efforts at Iran’s ports ensured the uninterrupted supply and transport of both essential and non-essential goods, preventing major disruptions even in the country’s most remote areas.

Sadegh also said Iranian ports recorded unprecedented levels of activity during the conflict, surpassing figures not previously reached even under normal circumstances. She called for a review of administrative procedures that may have hindered similar performance in peacetime.

“Records were set in port operations during this period that had not been achieved before, even under ordinary conditions,” she said. “The cumbersome processes that prevented such results in normal times must be identified and reformed.”

She added that those records were later surpassed during both the 12-day and 39-day conflicts, stressing the need to preserve the same operational approach going forward.

In her remarks, Sadegh also emphasized the importance of smart management of the Strait of Hormuz and the legal issues surrounding it, while reiterating the need to safeguard the livelihoods of small-scale maritime workers.

During her speech, the minister also paid special tribute to Commander Tangsiri and other “martyrs” who, she said, lost their lives defending the country’s territorial integrity.
