During the meeting with Mohammad Ali Mousapoor Gorgi, Director General of Amirabad Ports and Maritime Affairs, Zakeri praised the port’s initiatives in rail transport. He emphasized that strengthening logistics is essential during this critical period to ensure public livelihoods remain stable and uninterrupted.
Growth and Infrastructure Development
Zakeri recalled his visit to the port last year, noting that directives were issued to apply rail freight discounts from Amirabad to southern ports. He expressed satisfaction with the subsequent growth in rail transport volumes from the port.
The Managing Director highlighted that this growth reflects effective coordination among supply chain managers in Mazandaran Province. He stated that with the development of appropriate infrastructure, the port is expected to see further expansion and prosperity in the current year.
Zakeri also stressed the importance of proposals aimed at developing exports, imports, and transit. He described the suggestions from the Ports and Maritime Organization and Amirabad Port as highly suitable and worthy of consideration, expressing hope that collaborative efforts among executive agencies will help achieve these goals.
Strategic Benefits of Rail Transport
Highlighting the focus on rail transport in the Seventh Development Plan, Zakeri noted that expanding rail freight offers multiple benefits. These include reducing road accidents, enhancing safety, and lowering fossil fuel consumption. He added that the savings generated from these efficiencies could be reinvested into creating and developing the country’s infrastructure.
New Scenarios for Rail Share Expansion
During the visit, Director General Mousapoor Gorgi outlined the port’s one-year performance and objectives. He presented proposals to develop and promote rail transport, leveraging Mazandaran Province’s capacities to meet the Seventh Development Plan’s targets.
Mousapoor Gorgi pointed to the year’s growth in rail transport and explained that scenarios for expanding cargo flow have been developed. These scenarios focus on goods exported to CIS countries and imports from them. The goal is to enhance services for cargo owners and define effective incentives to encourage intermodal transport, particularly rail.
