Tehran, May 14 (MRUD NEWS)—Head of Iran’s Railway, Miad Salehi, informed of Iran and Russia cooperation in completing Rasht-Astara Railway, electrification of Incheboroun-Garmsar, and provision of locomotives for the country’s rail fleets.

The agreements would develop International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) as it links southern ports of Iran including Shahid Rajaee, Imam Khomeini, and Chabahar to Russia and northern countries through Inchehboroun Borders east of the Caspian Sea, Astara west of the Caspian Sea and northern ports including Amirabad, Caspian, and Anzali, Salehi added.

Due to Russia conflicts with the West, transit and transactions between Iran and Russia are expected to rise.

Rasht-Astara Railway project, as the missing link along INSTC, is among the top priority for joint negotiations with approximate cost of 17000 billion toman. Among other ways for financing the project, Iran is negotiating with Russia for the finance estimating to 12000 billion toman. 12 km of the project is going to be built by Khatam-al-Anbya Construction Headquarters costing 1050 billion toman.

Previously, Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, at the head of a delegation set off to Moscow on April 26 in order to meet his Russian counterparts, Vitaly Savelyev, for reaching transport and transit agreements. Then the two countries signed a comprehensive transport agreement after mutual negotiations.
