Iran and Azerbaijan Discuss Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan road link through Iran

Tehran, May 18 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, is meeting with Shahin Mustafayev, First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, and his delegation to Iran today in order to confer on the details of the previous agreements reached. 

The agreements include forming a road link between Nackchivan and Azerbaijan through Iran's territory that was signed during the 15th Iran, Azerbaijan Joint Economic Committee, Astara-Astara rail dock project, construction of a road bridge over the Astarachay River that, according to the Iranian Minister, is expected to be finished in 6 months.

The two countries are seeking increase of trade transactions and transit. According to Shahin Mustafayev, there was 20 percent increase in commercial transactions, and 70 percent increase in transit in the first fourth months of 2022 between the two countries. 

Shahin Mustafayev informed of his upcoming visit with Iran Ministers of Energy, Petroleum, Foreign Affairs as well as Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces.

Previously, Iran Transport Minister went to Baku in March 2022 at the head of a delegation to attend the 15th Iran, Azerbaijan Joint Economic Committee. 

Also, in January, Iran and Azerbaijan agreed on joint infrastructural projects targeting at increased transit. The agreement included construction of a road bridge over the Astarachay River at the border of the two countries.
