Tehran, November 1 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran and Armenia link through a new transit corridor along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) that stretches from Tatev Road in Armenia to Nordouz-Varzeqan in East Azerbaijan and then reaching to the Persian Gulf.
The agenda was conferred during the visit of Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, with Gnel Sanosyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia on October 31 in Tehran.
Hereby, the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) would be developed in the Armenian territory through Nordouz Border to Varzeqan and Tabriz which would subsequenly increase capacity for freight transit along the INSTC.
The two countries agreed to launch construction of 7.2 km-Kajaran tunnel in Armenia in the spring 2023 by Iranian Companies.
In the visit, export of technical and engineering services by Iranian companies was also discussed. Iranian companies are to participate in the construction projects of Armenia including tunnel, roads and housing projects.
The two sides also talked over increasing bilateral transactions.
Iran can efficiently export technical goods and services to Armenia as Iran is one of the largest exporters of cement in the world and has been active in producing steel and construction materials.
Last year in October 2021, Iranian delegation went to Armenia to consider participation for completing the southern part of a road corridor, the Tatev Road, as an alternative route to Goris-Kapan Road. Then Iran had declared its preparedness to complete the remaining part of Tatev Road in Armenian territory.
Iran is seeking to diversifies its transit routes with construction of new international routes in order to increase transit advantages and ease access to the countries along North-South Corridor and Europe.
