Tehran, December 21 (MRUD NEWS)—Iran has added 428 rolling stocks all manufactured domestically in Iran (involving 20 companies) including freight and passenger cars and locomotives to its current fleet which estimates to 1500 billion tomans.  

This was formally inaugurated in December 20 during the national transport week in Iran (December 17-22) with presence of Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development and head of Iran Railways (RAI). 

Iran has prioritized railway sector and aims to increase the share of rail freight transport from 10 to 30 percent. 

Currently, there are 30,000 freight cars in Iran which are fewer than what is needed in the country, although there had been 20 percent increase in passenger cars compared to the last year, accroding to the head of Iran Railways (RAI).

Additionally, the express trains are on the agenda of Iran's expanding rail infrastructures. 

Iran transport policy-makers and actors all regard transit as a sustainable source of income for the country considering the particular geopolitical location along international corridors.
