Tehran, January 25 (MRUD NEWS)—Transit can be done through various modes of transport including road, rail, sea, and air, but rail transit has unique features compared to other modes such as greater safety, higher capacity, and lower fuel consumption, pollution and costs.
Transit is very important for Iran due to its geographical location amid international corridors and it could be a sustainable source of income for the country.
The statistical reports of Iran Railways (RAI) for the rail transit show that the movement of freight transit through Iran's territory had been 1,102 km on average per month between 21 March to 21 October 2022.
The highest record had been 1,393 km in March.
In 2021, 1,913,000 tons freights were transited in total.
Moreover, 17039 wagons were transited (including oil and non-oil), estimating to 841,654 tons during 7 months from 21 March to 21 October 2022.
In terms of revenue source, Sarakhs Border is leading among other rail borders, while with regard to the volumes of freight transit, Sarakhs-Bandar Abbas Corridor and Razi-Sarakhs Corridor are leading corridors respectively.
