Tehran, March 10, 2024 (MRUD NEWS)—A joint meeting on international transport and transit between the delegations of Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan was held in Kabul to confer on the deepening of bilateral and multilateral relations, mutual reduction of tariffs, unification of costs, and facilitation of freight transit through Iran for Afghan businessmen with the priority of promoting logistics services in Chabahar Port.
Following previous meeting in Tehran, the meeting was hosted by Afghanistan, with the Iranian delegation headed by Javad Hedayati, the director-general of Transit and International Transportation Bureau at Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO), and the Afghan delegation headed by Yar Mohammad Ramazan, the Head of Road Transport Laws and Treaties of Afghanistan. The two sides exchanged views on the above-mentioned agendas and reached agreements on the details of their implementation.
In the meeting, while emphasizing the importance of reducing the cost of transportation between the two countries, Hedayati emphasized on the necessity to create fair and equal conditions for the fleets of both countries, to ensure possibility of inward transit for Iranian fleets in the territory of Afghanistan, and called for improving the status of road maintenance and truck parking with suitable facilities in the territory of Afghanistan for the Iranian fleets.
According to Hedayati, other agendas emphasized by Iran included implementation of regulations governing international transport, installing transit number plates on the Afghan fleets when entering the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the necessity of complying with national regulations and acknowledging the responsibilities of drivers and the fleets as well as the safety standards before entering the territory of Iran and some agreements were reached.
