Tehran, July 24, 2024 (NEWS MRUD)—The head of Iran Meteorological Organization, Sahar Tajbakhsh, proposed for reforming the South Asian Meteorological Association (SAMA) structure by including a working group for protecting all the people of Asia from the risk of atmospheric hazards.
To this end, the structure of the Asian Meteorological Association must be updated, she recommended.
In the third meeting of the regional working group of the Asian Meteorological Association, which was held via video conference with the presence of representatives of some Asian countries, Tajbakhsh stated: If we want to follow the agenda of the Secretary General of the United Nations to protect all the people of the world against the risk of atmospheric hazards by 2027 through the "Early Warning for All" system, a working group should be added in the new structure of the Asian Meteorological Association.
The "Early Warnings for All" task force can help a lot to expand this system in Asia, so we should present and approve this issue at the 18th meeting of the Asian Meteorological Association.
The Climate change has had important effects and consequences in Asia, so that most Asian countries are dealing with the challenges of drought, floods and sand storms, the head of regional working group of the Asian Meteorological Association continued.
Asia is a vast continent with a diverse climate, and we need a working group in the field of hydrology to manage and adjust the hazardous conditions of its atmospheric and hydrological phenomena, especially floods, Tajbakhsh added.
The hydrological working group can help to manage and adjust the impact of extreme weather in the region for provision of better services to the people.
The frequency of hazardous weather phenomena is closely related to climate change, which requires joint and coordinated steps to be taken to manage it, Tajbakhsh mentioned.
