MRUDNEWS- In a significant step to enhance bilateral cooperation, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, announced the imminent formation of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Transport Committee. The committee aims to accelerate the implementation of joint projects in rail, road, air and sea transport.

Speaking on Thursday, April 11th, during a visit to joint border projects, Minister Sadegh highlighted the outcomes of her three-day discussions with Azerbaijani authorities. Her Excellency noted that previous Memorandums were reviewed and new agreements were reached following the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation meeting.

The Minister described her meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as groundbreaking for deepening ties in transport, energy, oil, gas and trade. She also held talks with Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Shahin Mustafayev, focusing on advancing the agreed framework of the Joint Commission.

Minister Sadegh recalled the 16th session of the commission hosted by Tehran in February last year, stressing the progress made, including three high-level meetings with her Azerbaijani counterpart in the past six months.

She announced plans to finalize agreements on border affairs, transportation, customs, trade, ports, and shipping ahead of Iranian President, H.M. Masoud Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan. This visit is anticipated to mark the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations.

The minister underscored the effectiveness of recent joint measures to promote transit and transportation, stating that the formation of the transportation committee reflects the commitment of both nations to strengthening collaboration and fostering regional connectivity.
