Shahid Rajaee Port Handles Over 36 Million Tons of Cargo in First Half of Year

Bandar Abbas, Iran – Shahid Rajaee Port, Iran’s largest commercial gateway, recorded the handling of 36,346,997 tons of cargo during the first six months of the current year, according to official figures released by port authorities. Of this volume, more than 23.6 million tons were export shipments.

Non-oil exports accounted for 19.7 million tons, while oil-based exports totaled 3,924,156 tons. The non-oil export sector experienced a 14% year-on-year increase, with imports in this category reaching 4,037,132 tons over the same period.

Key exported commodities included steel and mineral products such as iron ore, briquettes, sponge iron, and iron pellets, which were shipped to international target markets.

Transit operations also demonstrated strong growth, with non-oil transit cargo volumes rising to 5,126,660 tons—an increase of 33% compared to the corresponding period last year.

Additionally, 751 non-container and non-oil vessels docked at Shahid Rajaee Port during the six-month period, underlining the port’s role as a vital maritime hub.

Strategic Role in National Trade

Spanning more than 4,800 hectares, including operational areas and hinterland, Shahid Rajaee Port Complex boasts an annual handling capacity of over 88 million tons. It currently manages around 100 million tons of cargo each year and is responsible for more than 55% of Iran’s exports and imports and 70% of the country’s port transit activities.

Located 23 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas and connected to international waters, as well as the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman nations, Shahid Rajaee Port is widely recognized as Iran’s “Golden Gateway to Global Trade.”
