The project, funded by the Ports and Maritime Organization with an investment of 30 trillion Rials, will encompass 24 kilometers of groundwork and 11 kilometers of rail installation. This development aims to significantly enhance the port’s operational efficiency and position it as a key node in regional trade routes.
The completed link will integrate the Makran coast with the national rail system and the vital North-South Transport Corridor, streamlining cargo movement between India, Russia, and Europe.
The increased rail capacity will allow to handle an additional 4.5 million tons of cargo annually, further solidifying Chabahar’s role as a major oceanic port and a driving force for economic growth in the region.
The new rail infrastructure is expected to facilitate smoother trade, reduce transportation costs, and improve overall connectivity within the region, bolstering Iran’s position as a key transit hub.
