Cargo Throughput at Iran’s Ports Surpasses 220 Million Tons

220 The Minister of Roads and Urban Development announced that cargo operations at Iran’s ports have exceeded 220 million tons, reflecting significant growth in line with the country’s maritime economy strategy.

Speaking at the nationwide inauguration ceremony of the Ministry’s development projects across 17 provinces, held in the presence of the President, Farzaneh Sadegh highlighted a 28 percent increase in container operations at the country’s ports.

She stated that the rise in cargo throughput demonstrates progress in implementing sea-based economic policies and strengthening port infrastructure. In addition to increased cargo activity, more than 29 million maritime voyages have been recorded, underscoring enhanced maritime safety and operational capacity.

The minister also reported improved loading and unloading efficiency at major ports, noting that transit and cargo handling at Chabahar Port have grown by more than 110 percent.

Transport Diplomacy Expands Regional Connectivity

Addressing transportation diplomacy efforts, Sadegh said several strategic railway corridors have been revived, including routes linking China to Iran, Iran to Pakistan and Turkey, and Turkey to Iraq.

She further announced that transit permits have been secured from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, facilitating expanded regional transit and strengthening Iran’s position as a key logistics hub.

Officials say these developments will enhance trade flows, increase transit capacity, and further integrate Iran into regional and international transport networks.
