Iran, Syria advance post-war cooperation

رستم قاسمی و بشار رسن Iran and Syria have agreed on practical solutions to expand their bilateral relations

Tehran, Jan 15 (MRUD NEWS) – As the head of Iran-Syria Joint Economic Commission, Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, headed a high-ranking delegation to Syria on January 11 and met with senior officials of Syria including President of Syria Bashar al-Assad, Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Central Bank Governor Muhammad Issam Hazima, and Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil. 

With the war almost over in Syria, Tehran and Damascus are determined to extend their bilateral relations and expand their economic ties. 

The Iranian Minister informed of economic and construction agreements and decisions to form a joint committee to follow up reached agreements. The upcoming joint committee is going to discuss previous agreements which have not been yet implemented. 

In a three-day visit of Iran's Minister to Syria, the two sides agreed to establish a joint bank in Syria with branches in two countries.

Previously, a MoU was signed for mutual cooperation between Iran and Syria on 26 November 2019 following the strategic document signed between the two parties.
