Tehran, June 6 (MRUD NEWS)—Following Iran's plan for development of sustainable sea-based economy, Iran is currently doing initial studies for a new port in the Kuh Mubarak Region in Oman Sea, according to Iran's deputy transport minister, Shahriyar Afandizadeh.

In addition to the Chabahar Port, this new port on the coast of Oman Sea is adjacent to the Jask oil field and refinery.

In the past, comprehensive plan of the commercial ports of Iran had estimated the unloading and loading demands of these ports till 2025. Now Iran's comprehensive transportation plan is being updated with the cooperation of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) which estimates demand until 2035. In addition, other studies regarding the estimation of the demand of small (sub)ports have been conducted by the aforementioned organization, and this document is compatible with the horizon envisioned in the country's comprehensive transportation plan, Afandizadeh said.

From a technical and economic point of view, special attention to the development of Makran coasts as one of the policies of Iran shows the necessity of creating a new port on the shore of Oman Sea in addition to the Chabahar Port, Iran deputy transport minister announced. For this purpose, Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has carried out studies for this port and it has proposed construction of a new port in the Kuh Mubarak Region in the vicinity of the Jask oil and refinery area, he continued.

Considering the location of this port and future development plans of other main and secondary ports of Iran, in the third phase of Iran's comprehensive transportation plan (integrated network design), the backshore networks of road and rail will be designed based on the demand of these ports in order to facilitate connection of the ports with territorial and extraterritorial areas, the deputy transport minister further stated.

Noteworthy, Iran has plan to promote sea-based economy as a strategic industry particularly by drawing on the potentials of knowledge-based companies, academic potentials, and participation of regional countries in its economic plans.
